Rural History 2015

It is a great pleasure for the Spanish Agricultural History Society (SEHA) and the Rural History Research Centre of the University of Girona (CRHR) to welcome all the participants to the Rural History 2015 Conference in Girona during September 2015. The conference organisation was entrusted by the Management Committee of the European Rural History Organisation (EURHO) in August 2013, when the Rural History 2013 Conference was held in Bern, which had about 300 participants. At that time, the Swiss Rural History Society and the Archives of Rural History were in charge of the conference organisation, taking up the torch from the British Agricultural History Society, organiser of the Rural History 2010 Conference in Brighton. By organising the conference in Girona, we expect to maintain the scientific quality and good atmosphere of the previous two conferences and even increase the number of participants.

The EURHO conference is an invaluable opportunity to present and know the current research stage in different thematic and chronological areas of rural history, a branch of historical knowledge where teamwork, the comparative perspective and interdisciplinary dialogue have a long tradition. The Spanish Agricultural History Society and the Rural History Research Centre of the University of Girona, each one with more than a quarter century of existence, are two examples of the collective work potential in this field and the need for international collaboration. Both organisations have participated in the COST A35 from 2005 to 2009 as well as in the process of creating and consolidating the EURHO since 2010. By organising the Rural History 2015 conference, the SEHA and the CRHR assume the need for constant renewal of the discipline and to further our aim to open up worldwide.

The conference is structured around panel sessions on a specific topic. 71 panels were selected after the call for panels announced in May 2014. We invite historians and related scholars to submit proposals for papers (up to 1,000 words). The deadline for submission is January 31, 2015. Corresponding authors will be informed of the outcome of the review and selection process by February 28, 2015. In case your paper does not fit the topics currently available on the list of panels, there is an open subject panel (panel No. 72) to submit your paper. It is also envisaged a panel (Panel No. 73) for graduate students (master or doctoral) who wish to present their research in progress.

Submissions proceed totally online using the interface for events administrator ConfToolINSTRUCTIONS
