Our History
2008
In 2008, Diacronie was founded by a group of students of the master’s degree course in European History at the University of Bologna.
2009
In September 2009 the association is registered and is provided with a statute; since October 2009 it includes among its activities the publication of a quarterly journal with free access, «Diacronie. Studi di Storia Contemporanea».
2010
During the year the magazine publishes its fifth issue, Italie ‘altre’. Immagini e comunità italiane all’estero, which is the first issue to have a call for papers.
From 2010 – until 2013 – Diacronie takes on the role of observer within ISHA (International Students of History Association): it is the representative of the Bologna University section of this association.
2011
From 2011 to 2013 Diacronie entertains the first experience of international partnership with «Chrônidas», a Brazilian journal of history and social sciences of the Universidade Federal de Goiàs. Diacronie hosts a selection of articles already published by «Chrônidas» in order to offer the Italian public a space dedicated to Brazilian historiography.
For the publication of issue 7 of the journal, dedicated to the Spanish Civil War, Diacronie signs a partnership agreement with the Adelante Association.

2012
In 2012, Diacronie starts a collaboration with Emilien Ruiz (Professor of Digital History at Sciences Po), author of the blog Devenir historien-ne. This partnership led to the creation of one of the columns published on the Diacronie portal, the Italian version of Devenir historien-ne, edited by Ludovica Lelli since 2020.
Alongside this first experience, two other columns published on the Diacronie portal were born: Parole in Storia, edited by Luca Bufarale, which analyses the origin, use and meaning of technical terms in history, and Controversa, a space dedicated to the analysis of great historiographic controversies.
The year 2012 also marks the start of a collaboration (still ongoing) with the Brazilian journal «Cadernos do Tempo Presente», a reference periodical of the GET linked to the Universidade Federal de Sergipe (UFS). The result of this partnership will be the translation of several articles – already published in the respective journals – into Italian on «Diacronie», Portuguese on «Cadernos do Tempo Presente».
With the support of the Collegio di Studi Superiore of the University of Bologna and the Centro Interuniversitario di Storia Culturale, Diacronie organises the conference La storia nell’era dell’accesso. L’impiego delle tecnologie digitali nelle scienze storiche (22 October 2012). The workshop follows the publication of issue 10 of the journal dedicated to Digital History.
The journal obtains the A2 classification for the History class in the evaluation made by the Brazilian CAPES over the three years 2010-2012.
2013
The journal is recognized as scientific by ANVUR for the area 14 (Political and Social Sciences).
During the year 2013 the association Diacronie signs an internship agreement with the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna (2013).
In the first months of the year, Diacronie organises a seminar dedicated to Digital History (Digital History. Approches, méthodes et outils de travail. Première journée, Paris 21 January; Digital History. Approcci, metodi e strumenti di lavoro. Seconda giornata, Bologna, 22 February 2013) coordinated by Elisa Grandi and Deborah Paci with the cooperation of the University of Bologna and the patronage of the Università Franco-Italiana, the Ambassade de France en Italie and the Alliance française in Bologna.
Also in 2013, Diacronie co-hosts the seminars Una “nuova” storia contemporanea? Le riviste digitali e lo studio del passato, Viterbo, 16-18 May 2013 (in collaboration with the journal «Officina della Storia» and with the support of the University of Tuscia and the library system of Viterbo).
2014
The journal is recognized as scientific by ANVUR for area 11 (Historical, philosophical, pedagogical and psychological sciences).
The magazine enters the Dialnet portal.
“Panoramiche” is born: an international review of the most significant books that have animated the historiographic debate in the respective countries, which will be reproposed the following year.
2015
In October, the journal is listed in the biographical index of the ERIH (European Reference Index for the Humanities).
2016
The series of podcasts “Notabilia”, edited by Jacopo Bassi, dedicated to the relationship between music and history, is launched; it will be aired for two years on Radio Ca’ Foscari.
The journal Diacronie launches the PICO translation project: in the following years articles will be translated from Greek and Portuguese.
2017
Diacronie obtains a B1 rating for the class of History, B3 for Public and Business Administration, Accounting Sciences and Tourism, B3 for Economics, C for Education Sciences, B4 for Didactics, B4 for Urban and Regional Planning/Demography, B4 for Sociology and B3 for Interdisciplinary Studies in the periodicals evaluation carried out by CAPES (Brazil) for the four-year period 2013-2017.
2018
The journal is recognised as scientific by ANVUR for area 13 (Economic sciences and statistics).
On October 22, Diacronie organizes, together with the Department of Historical Disciplines of the University of Bologna, the introduction of the 34th issue of the journal, Scuola e società in Italia e Spagna tra Ottocento e Novecento.
The first episode of “La trama e l’ordito” (The plot and the warp), a digital storytelling project hosted by the Diacronie portal, is published: this first edition is dedicated to the Warsaw genuflection. For the realization of the html pages of the project – created by some students of the Master in Digital Humanities of the University Ca’ Foscari Venice – Diacronie signs an internship agreement with the university.
2019
On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the magazine, Diacronie organises – in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice – the conference I muri trent’anni dopo (21-22 October 2019).
2020
By 2020 Diacronie starts a partnership (still ongoing) with the Brazilian journal «Revista da Teoria da Historia»; the agreement foresees a regular exchange of articles between the two journals.
The Diacronie association signs an internship agreement with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia (2020) to host curricular internships.
In addition to the existing columns, there is the addition of Messa a fuoco, as a result of the collaboration with the paper magazine «Qualestoria»: three guests answer questions on the topic of research, analysing it in various geographical and temporal contexts, according to the specific skills of each of the scholars interviewed.
Two new sections are created and hosted in the issues of «Diacronie»: Motore, ciak, storia!, dedicated to the relationship between history and audiovisuals, and Clioludica, a space focused on the relationship between history, games and videogames.
2021
The magazine is recognized as scientific by ANVUR for area 10 (Sciences of antiquity, philological-literary and historical-artistic).
In 2021 Diacronie starts a new partnership (still ongoing) with another Brazilian journal «Boletim historiar»: the agreement foresees the collaboration of both journals in the circulation of call for papers and in scientific consultancy.
On 18 February the seminar “History through the eyes of the fans”, is held (online), a presentation of the issue 42 of the magazine, Più che un club. Tifoserie e identità storiche. The event is sponsored by the University of Siena and Società Italiana di Storia dello Sport.
Diacronie presented on 30 June issue 44 of the magazine, «Can the Subaltern speak» attraverso l’ambiente?
The section L’ambiente della storia, a fixed space on the pages of «Diacronie», is created.
Diacronie’s editorial staff participates in the creation of the Italian version of the Cliomatica portal.
